Senior DOE Official to Announce EnergySmart Hospitals Initiative

WASHINGTON – On Wednesday, July 23, 2008, U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Associate Under Secretary Richard F. Moorer will announce the launch of the EnergySmart Hospitals Initiative at the American Society of Healthcare Engineering’s (ASHE) annual meeting.  The Nation’s hospitals are among the most energy-intensive commercial buildings and last year spent more than $5 billion on energy costs.  Associate Under Secretary Moorer will discuss the Department’s commitment to help the Nation’s hospitals improve their energy efficiency and reduce energy costs, freeing up dollars to be reinvested in patient care.
