IDAHO FALLS— On Monday, Aug. 22, an open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held to mark the opening of the U.S. Department of Energy’s new Radiological and Environmental Sciences Laboratory. The mission of the RESL facility is to provide measurement quality assurance for programs that protect workers, the public and the environment. The U.S. Department of Energy’s Idaho Operations Office reported this month that radiation from the site falls well below limits established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The annual report’s conclusions are supported by direct environmental monitoring data routinely taken during the year, and show that activities at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) site are protective of human health and the environment.
